Eleven other world class players have committed alongside Scheffler

LA QUINTA, Calif. (January 8, 2026) – The American Express® announced today that four-time major champion Scottie Scheffler has committed to the 2026 tournament. Scheffler, who has claimed four consecutive Jack Nicklaus Awards as the PGA TOUR’s Player of the Year, will be making his sixth start in the Coachella Valley and first since 2024. The 19-time PGA TOUR winner’s best finish here came in his debut in 2020, when he finished solo third.

Alongside Scheffler, 11 other PGA TOUR stars will tee it up at The American Express®. Russell Henley and Robert MacIntyre, who are currently fifth and seventh in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), will return to the Coachella Valley. American Ryder Cup stars Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay, the latter of whom hails from Southern California, are two other players inside the OWGR top 25 that will play.

Additional commitments include Australian Adam Scott, who, remarkably, will be making his debut at The American Express®. At 45 years old, Scott remains one of the world’s most popular players. He won The Masters Tournament in 2013 and has 14 PGA TOUR titles to his name. Scott also sat atop the OWGR for 10 weeks in 2014.

European Ryder Cup stalwarts Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick will also tee it up at The American Express®. Rose is currently the 10th ranked player in the OWGR and had a terrific 2025 campaign, which included a victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August. Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, is 22nd in the OWGR, and finished his 2025 PGA TOUR season with top 20 finishes in six of his last seven starts. Rose last played in this event in 2023 while Fitzpatrick will be making his debut.

Tony Finau returns to the Coachella Valley for his ninth appearance at The American Express®. His best finish came in 2021, which was a tie for fourth. Young phenom Luke Clanton, who had a stellar collegiate career at Florida State, will make his debut in the Coachella Valley in 2026. Last year, as an amateur, Clanton recorded two top 20 finishes on the PGA TOUR before turning professional in June.

Rounding out this set of commitments are Billy Horschel and Will Zalatoris, two popular players who endured injury-plagued seasons in 2025. Horschel, an eight-time PGA TOUR winner, underwent hip surgery last May and did not return to competitive action until October. Zalatoris, meanwhile, tied for 12th at The American Express® last year, but then suffered another back-related injury in May and underwent season-ending surgery. He has not played competitively since the 2025 PGA Championship.

“With these latest commitments, the 2026 edition of The American Express® will feature some of the best and most cherished golfers in the world,” said Tournament Director Pat McCabe.

“We are so excited to have Scottie Scheffler return after missing last year due to an injury. I know the fans will be thrilled to see the defending PGA Champion and Champion Golfer of the Year star in the Coachella Valley. Having Adam Scott and Matt Fitzpatrick make their debuts here will be quite special too.”

Defending champion Sepp Straka, who is currently 11th in the OWGR, and Ben Griffin, who is eighth, previously committed in December. So did major champions Brian Harman and Wyndham Clark, young star Akshay Bhatia, and fan-favorite and Southern California native Rickie Fowler.

The full field for the 2026 The American Express® will be unveiled at 5 pm ET / 2 pm PT on Friday, January 16, 2026.
